Car Key Programming on Tybee Island

Modern keys talk to your vehicle electronically. If a key is not programmed to your car, it will not start the engine even if it fits. We program transponder keys, remotes, and smart keys to your vehicle.

Whether you bought a key elsewhere or need a spare synced, we handle the programming on site.

Programming services include

  • Transponder key programming
  • Remote and key fob syncing
  • Push-to-start smart key setup
  • Adding a spare key to your vehicle

A key that actually starts the car

Cutting a key is only half the job on most modern vehicles. Programming is what lets the engine recognize and start with that key.

How transponders and immobilizers work

Most vehicles built in the last couple of decades use an immobilizer, a security system that keeps the engine from starting unless it senses the right key. The key holds a tiny transponder chip with a unique code. When you insert or bring the key near the start button, the car checks that code. If it does not match, the engine stays off even though the key may turn or fit. Programming is how we teach your vehicle to trust a new key.

When programming is needed

  • You had a new key cut and it needs to start the engine
  • You are adding a spare to a vehicle that already has one key
  • A key fob or remote was replaced
  • A control module was repaired or replaced
  • A proximity smart key needs to be paired to the car

Proximity and smart key pairing

Push-to-start vehicles use a proximity key that the car detects without a slot. These keys still need precise pairing so the engine starts and the doors respond. We handle that on site for many makes. If you are replacing a button remote rather than the whole key, our key fob replacement service covers that, and full smart-key work is on our push-to-start page.

Why a dealer trip usually is not needed

It is easy to assume programming means a tow and a dealer appointment, but that is rarely the case. We bring dealer-level programming tools to your driveway, rental, or parking spot. If you bought a key or fob elsewhere, bring it along with your vehicle details and we will program it when it is compatible. Pair it with a fresh car key replacement if you also need the key cut.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

I bought a key online. Can you program it?

Often, yes. Bring the key and your vehicle details and we will program it if it is compatible.

Can you add a spare to my car?

Yes. Adding a programmed spare is a smart move so a single lost key never strands you.

Does every key need programming?

Most modern keys do. Older purely mechanical keys may not, but transponders and fobs do.

Why will my new key turn but not start the car?

That usually means the key is cut correctly but not yet programmed. The immobilizer does not recognize it, so the engine stays off until we pair the key.

How long does programming take?

Many keys program in a single visit. The time varies by make and key type, and we can give you an idea when you call with your vehicle details.

Can you program a key for a push-to-start vehicle?

Yes, for many makes. Proximity smart keys need careful pairing, and we handle that at your vehicle.
